The much anticipated opening game has finally happened and it was everything I could’ve asked for…. with one exception. A win for Mexico would have been the best in the world but a tie will be just fine for now. Mexico and South Africa tied the game 1 to 1 giving each team one point. Later in the day for the second game, Uruguay and France also tied with a score of 0 to 0 also giving each one point. At the end of the day all this is great news for all the teams because neither is ahead of each other.
Just a quick FYI on how the point system works: for every win the teams get 3 points, 1 point for a tie and 0 points if they lose. The top two of each group with the most points move to the second stage where the winners move to the quarter finals, semi-finals… then the final two go on to the final game for the World Cup. The winner becomes the best in the world and bragging rights for four years! Right now the 2006 World Cup winner is Italy. That was one awesome game!
Now for tomorrow’s game…. USA baby! USA vs. England will be a another tough match but I know we are going to get the win we need.
USA, USA, USA!
