I Can Ride (My First Lesson)

Excited is an understatement as to how I felt riding a horse on my own for the first time. I have fed them and groomed and bathed them and fed them… Yeah, I said it twice because it takes a lot of feeding. But one thing I’ve never done on my own was actually ride one until now! 

I’ve been reading some awesome blogs on horse riding like my sweet friend Equine Valentina and great articles on horsemanship at Info Horse and Spirit of Horsemanship to get me ready for this great day. Mostly I just had to get out of my fear of heights and well, falling and just let Dutchez take the reigns. She is so well trained that all I had to do was think about it and she would do it. She’s awesome! =)

What’s next? Lesson Two… maybe ride her out in the field or enter a barrel racing competition!? Ok, maybe not barrels but the field walking sounds good. Either way, I can’t wait to find out! Thanks to my teacher Gary and my sweet girl Dutchez for making my first time such a pleasure and so easy! =)
